Our Story

Born and raised in Berea, Kentucky, Jason Miracle was a milk truck driver before his uncle gave him the idea to jump into the booming business of Dry Cleaning. After pondering and talking to his new wife, Sue, he decided to take a leap of faith.

Starting in December of 1963, Jason went to training in Knoxville, TN to pursue the start of his Dry Cleaning career.

After a month of training, Jason and Sue moved to LaGrange, GA where Jason started managing his first cleaners. His job was to help cleaners that were on the brink of failure. The Miracles spent six months in south Georgia before they returned to Kentucky for a few months.

In October of 1964, Jason took a job at a One Hour “Martinizing” Cleaners in Carbondale, Illinois where they stayed until the beginning of 1966. They lived down the block, above a drug store in a little apartment. They quickly realized that the cold in Illinois was significantly harsher than what they were used to in Eastern Kentucky.

After leaving Illinois, they moved to the football-loving town of Auburn, Alabama. They lived in Auburn for five years and had their first son during this time. This was the first town where Sue could run and operate her own store which was located right off Auburn University’s campus on Glenn Avenue.

In 1971, the now family of three moved for the last time to Dalton, Georgia. Jason went to work at Big B Cleaners on Walnut Avenue.

The Miracle family grew a little more by 1972 when their second son was born. Instead of working for another company to “fix” cleaners, Jason and Sue bought Big B Cleaners in 1975 - the same year their last child, a daughter, was born.

In July 1987, they sold Big B Cleaners. By October of the same year, Jason opened his first cleaners, Old Fort Cleaners, in Fort Oglethorpe on Lafayette Rd. They remained in that building for ten years until they eventually outgrew it.

In 1997, the Miracles moved Old Fort Cleaners to its current location on Cross Street. Due to sickness and to start early retirement in 2002, Jason and Sue sold their business.

They spent six years with their children and grandchildren until the store owner elected to close the doors. Not wanting to see their once-booming business fail because of the mismanagement of the new owner, they came out of retirement in 2008.

After three hard years, profit was finally returning to a decent amount after the low it had hit in their absence. Customers were coming back after hearing that the Miracles were back in ownership.

In 2015, their daughter, Jennifer, came back to work for them after being gone for thirteen years. Jennifer had worked for her parents from the age of 12 to when they sold it in ‘02.

In July 2016, Jason passed away, leaving the business to Sue and Jennifer.

In 2020, during COVID, Jennifer and Sue agreed to open a second location in Rocky Face, GA. Miracle Cleaners was opened. Sue “retired” from the big store in Fort O to run the satellite store in Rocky Face. She became the face of Miracle Cleaners just as she was for Old Fort.
